How you can support the work of the National Book Foundation

The National Book Foundation’s public and educational outreach programs would not be possible without the generous support of our family of book lovers. You can designate a contribution to support a particular effort. Click on the program to see exactly how it helps:

  • BookUp, our after-school reading program in which underserved middle school children meet with a mentoring writer for 24 weeks a year. A $100 donation will buy a semester’s worth of books (12 books) for one child to expand his or her personal library, which is the best way to create a lifelong reader.

  • 5 Under 35, our program to bring emerging fiction writers to a broader public.

  • Innovations in Reading, our program to bring recognition to individuals and organizations across the country that share our vision of expanding the audience for reading in America.

  • National Book Awards Teen Press Conference, in which several hundred New York City teens meet with National Book Award Finalists on the day before the National Book Awards.

  • The National Book Awards, a literary prize that expands the audience for the best American writing.
